Stretching Your Neck

As you go about your day, it’s easy to develop some discomfort in your neck.  This is especially true of people who need to sit in front of a computer for much of their work day, having to hold their heads at bad angles in order to view the monitor.  When you’re feeling some neck pain that isn’t yet severe enough to call for our Edmonds chiropractor, try these simple stretches and you should experience some effective pain relief.

  • Start by your neck from side to side.  Start with one side and hold it in that position for thirty seconds, then do the same with the other side.

  • Next, tilt your head from one side to the other, again holding the position for thirty seconds on either side.

  • Finally, stretch the back of your neck by gently tilting your head forward as if you’re trying to touch your chest with your chin.

  • Note that you really shouldn’t be tilting your head backwards when you don’t need to.  Trying to stretch your neck in this way has the potential to do more harm than good.
