Pull Ups vs Chin Ups: Which is Better?

Chin ups and pull ups are similar in many ways. They involve the same muscle groups, but work them out to different degrees. Both of these exercises have something to offer to a proper workout routine, but a focus on one or the other may be appropriate depending on the specific results you desire.

Chin ups are done with your palms toward you, whereas pull ups are done with your palms facing outward. When you do chin ups, most of the work is done by your arm muscles. It is a good choice for strengthening your lats and biceps. Pull ups, on the other hand, take much of the stress away from your biceps and puts it on the teres major muscles in your back. These are a better choice for people who want to build up their core strength, which is an important part of preventing back injuries.
