A daily neck stretching routine is a good way to avoid or manage neck pain. It is important to do it right, though, so that you don’t inflict further damage upon your fragile neck muscles. Our Edmonds chiropractic clinic offers the following tips for neck stretching:
- Start by gently rolling your head from side to side. Begin on one side, move your neck so that you’re facing downward, and then complete the motion by tilting your head to the other side. Reverse the motion, and repeat for a rep or ten.
- Tilt your head to one shoulder and pull it gently downward with one hand for the count of ten. Repeat the stretch with the other side.
- Don’t try to move your head back! Your neck isn’t well-equipped to move backward, and it is easy to damage yourself further this way.
