An injury in the coccyx, or tailbone, is a painful experience. Simple acts like sitting down can easily become a trying ordeal. Fortunately, there are tactics you can use to help handle the pain. If you are suffering from a coccyx injury, consider the following advice from our Edmonds chiropractic clinic.
- When your injury is still fairly new, apply a cold compress to the affected area fifteen minutes at a time, four times a day. Use a cold pack, or wrap ice in a wash cloth so that you don’t apply ice directly to your skin.
- You’ll want to avoid constipation as much as possible. Favor a high-fiber, low fat diet, and get plenty of water. You also might consider a stool softener.
- Sit on a coccyx pillow, and avoid sitting on hard surfaces for an extended period of time.
- Consult your doctor on pain medication.
