Are Your Kids Hurting Your Back?

If you have kids, you probably already know that they can be a real pain in the neck from time to time. And this isn’t always their fault, either; sometimes it’s strictly in the way you’re holding them. So, if you find yourself suffering from chronic back pain while you raise your little ones, our Edmonds chiropractic clinic advises that you take the following precautions:

Your back pain can start with your child is still an infant. Remember that, in the earliest years of your child’s life, you’re going to be lifting him or her out of a crib many, many times. Even if the child doesn’t feel too heavy at first, consider the awkward angle you’re generally employing. Repeat this motion over and over again, and it can add up to some serious damage. Remember to draw your child in close when you lift him or her, and avoid lifting with your back.

When you child gets a bit bigger, it’s a common practice to give the little one a ride on your shoulders. This is good fun, but it also invites neck and back pain. Consider crouching down to have your child climb on your back, instead of lifting him or her onto your shoulders by yourself.
